Then there was this guy with a golden tooth...

I have to say I really enjoyed making this quick digital doodle for #doodleadayjuly. I looked at the doodle calendar earlier in the day, saw the word "golden" next to July 28th. I thought about it off and on during the day, "hmmm...golden...what can draw that is golden?"
I thought of the sun or a sunflower, I thought of a shiny gold coin, but they seemed all too common. Finally, just a few hours before bedtime the "a-ha!" moment came.

Into my mind popped this cute little guy with a golden tooth and sideburns that would have made my 20 year old dad quite jealous. He's pretty cool lookin' don't ya think? The sideburns makes me think he's got some pretty funky dance moves, and he knows it, that's why he's smiling!

Custom Doodle Requests

I've been posting some of my random doodles on my Facebook page recently, but yesterday I did something a little different. I asked my followers if anyone had any doodle requests, and to my delight, they did! I will be working on those requests through next week, in no specific order.

Today's custom doodle is titled "Julian." I've only seen Julian twice, both times for only a few minutes. Once as a toddler, and once not that long ago. Julian is about...10-ish maybe? I worked with his dad years ago (before Julian was born), a funny guy and an awesome illustrator himself. When he requested that I created a doodle of his son, I got a little nervous. I mean, this guy can REALLY draw. I aspire to be able to draw like him one day, and he's asking little ol' me to create a doodle of his precious boy?

Well, I was up for the challenge, and I hope not to disappoint! For extra fun, I added some lettering to the illustration to make it a bit humorous. After all, my work is always created with the intention to delight and make you smile.

Do you have a custom request? Follow me on Facebook! I will be accepting doodle requests soon again.

What the font is this, Valentine?

So last year on Valentine's Day, Mr. Perez showed up to my job with a bouquet of roses and a box of chocolates. The women in the office ooohed and ahhhed and I just about barfed. Of all things, red roses? Sigh...so cliché, so NOT me.
I went through the entire year a little ticked that after 12 years of knowing the guy, he showed up with a bouquet of my least favorite flowers. It's been bugging me since then, so in an effort to prevent the same thing from happening this year, I had an honest talk with him.

"Valentine roses, chocolates, bouquets and stuffed animals suck! They are commercialized clutter. Experiences make me happy."

Indeed, experiences and things I need make me happy, like exercise, food, fashion accessories and fonts. Yes I need fonts! Especially this one, Mandevilla, by Laura Worthington. OMG, it would look so chic and elegant in one of my invitation designs. But I wasn't about to ask him for fonts, or accessories for that matter. He's anti technology and has no sense of fashion. I'm not even sure he knows what a font is. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I married a caveman. A strong, kind-hearted, caveman who says he doesn't have to worry about not knowing how to match his clothes because his good looks make up for his lack of fashion sense. Lol. At least he has a sense humor.

So I proceeded...

"Please don't feel like you have to give me something just because it's Valentine's. But if you feel you must, how about you give me some of your time and a 'yes' agreeing to run another 5k or a half marathon with me?"

His reply: "Yes! Just not on the same day."

Me: "Yay! Thank you."
I felt the need to further explain, so I continued with: "Look, I like flowers, just as you like TV. But giving me red roses would be the same as forcing you to watch endless episodes of Victorious on Nickelodeon, instead of letting you watch The Sopranos."

Yeah, I think I made my point.

So, is it just me, or are there other women out there that don't buy into the Valentine's hype?
Hmmm...

Doodle of the Day: Visit to the Dental Hygienist

Went to the dentist today during my lunch break. I like my dentist, I just don't like what he or the dental hygienist have to do to my teeth or gums every now and then. I didn't have any major work done, just a cleaning, but 9 hours later, my gums still hurt from that cleaning. Ouch!

The experience reminded me of the "Instruments of Torture" exhibition at the Museum of Man in Balboa Park, San Diego. I think my dental hygienist and her handy-dandy little instruments should be part of that exhibition. I could see it now: "Instruments of torture exhibition, free torturous teeth cleaning included with admission." - ha!

My new love

Hello everyone. Meet my new love. His name is Mac. He's beautiful, smart, fun, resourceful and we have so much in common (he plays my favorite music, we draw together, we Facetime my loved ones, etc.).
I am thankful for the time Mr. PC and I shared together - all NINE years, to be exact. He's practically a dinosaur in computer years, and just like dinosaurs became extinct, I know Mr. PC doesn't have much life left in him. He will spend the last of his days with my little girl, helping her with homework, while Mac and I begin our new journey together. One of productivity, fun and growth, all which will be seen on this blog and my stationery shop at www.PaisleyInParis.com.  ~ I'm so excited!

Daily Doodle: "Happy Birthday Alberto!"

Today's doodle was created for one of my coworkers, the one I call "my favorite person on payday." Ha, ha! I work with a nice bunch of people, they're all my favorites for various reasons, but this guy puts a smile on my face every couple of weeks when the direct deposit hits my bank account. Therefore, I decided he needed more than a signature on his birthday card (which we all signed). He deserved a serenade. I can't sing so I serenaded him via my talented mariachi doodle, who happens to have an amazing voice. Take a look, you can almost hear him!

Looking at things with a bit of humor

Gas prices seem to be affecting everyone, no matter "witch" way you look. ~ Lol. Sheez, if I didn't live 25 miles from work, I would so ride a bike there and back to get fit and save money. Oh, well...life goes on.

My coworker's vanishing undies

It was Thursday morning, around 10 a.m. or so, I was in my office working away, when I heard a loud commotion in the hallway. I thought "Sheez, someone's having too much fun." I laughed at the sounds my coworkers made, not knowing what the fuss was all about. After all, laughter is contagious, you know. I continued with my work and about 15 minutes later I walk by the receptionist's desk, she waves me down and asks "Did you hear what happened?" I was intrigued, so I put my ear closer to her as I replied "No, what happened?" She could barely contain her laughter as she began to tell me the story. When I heard, I burst out laughing as well, headed back to my office and immediately shared with my boss what I had just heard.
A few hours later, one of our vendors that the older employees have developed a close friendship with shows up. (This is where I begin to refer to my coworkers by another name to protect their identity) He sits in the office across the hall to visit with his friend (my coworker) and my boss yells out "Hey Frank, why don't you ask Ms. Fancypants what she did today?"
So Frank looks at her and asks, "What did you do?"
She gracefully replies: "I was in my closet changing this morning. I had a pair of underwear, but decided on wearing another pair. I was fully dressed when I realized I was missing that first pair of underwear. I looked around, I looked on the floor, under the bench, and nothing. So I proceeded about my day. I walked the dog, I came back, had breakfast, and came to work. A few hours later, I went to the kitchen and I happen to look in the trash, and there they were! My missing underwear from this morning were in the kitchen trash - at work! I pull them out and I say out loud 'these are my underwear!' No one can believe I admitted to it."
By this time, we had all gathered around her office door to hear her tell the story. We all burst out laughing again.
Apparently, one of the gentlemen we work with found something on the floor. He picked it up and realized it was women's underwear, and he reacted by putting them on the receptionist's desk. The receptionist looks at the underwear and is both puzzled and grossed out by it. She scoops it off her desk and throws it in the trash bin in our kitchen/copy room. A while later Ms. Fancypants walks in the kitchen, looks in the trash and finds the underwear she was missing hours earlier. Ha! Mystery solved!
We're in the middle of winter, so I'm sure that as she changed this morning, somehow the extra pair of undies became trapped in between her layers of clothing, which is why she didn't feel anything. I however, like to think that static kept her "chonies" attached to the back of her sweater and I picture her walking around all morning displaying it on her back. It just makes for a funnier picture in my mind.
Ha, ha, ha! I love Ms. Fancypants! I want to be just like her when I grow up. She was such a good sport about the whole thing. We teased her all day, and when 5:30pm came around, the 65 year old proudly says "Good night everyone. I'm glad I was able to give you all a good laugh!"
This my friends, is why I love working around people. You don't get to share these kind of moments with your peers when you work from home.

Toilet Decor, Just for Fun

What? Someone's hiding in the toilet? An alligator may bite my toosh while I'm relieving myself? Uh, I think I'll hold it 'till I get home, thank you very much.
